THE PRESIDENT SPEAKS

It has come to my attention that the new National USJCI Board of Directors - specifically Mr. Bill Smith who was last years Prize Chairman for the year end raffle - continue to slight the Hispanic culture, perpetuate the myth of foreign currency undervaluation, and totally disregard the sovereignty (indeed the very existence) of the state of New Mexico. When attempting to register at the recent national convention in Niagara Falls as President of the New Mexico JCI, I was asked to provide proof of citizenship! And then asked if I needed to exchange my own currency for US dollars!! Who taught these people geography? Has the ‘Leadership Training’ I was exposed to as a Jaycee in the late 1970’s and 1980’s been reduced to the Cliff Notes version of individual growth? And what about the preparedness exemplified by the proper completion of a CPG? Do they use any planning guide anymore? Evidently not if they think all of us here in New Mexico exist on pesos, sleep half the day away, and have little Taco Bell dogs for pets! But the final indignity came in the September 1999 issue of Mentors - The Official Publication of the USJCI Senate Foundation. I was fortunate to be a prizewinner at the annual raffle and the spelling of my name was once again distorted beyond recognition! “Larrigorte” ??? Every editor worth his own spell check icon should have caught that gross error! I have been the President of the NMJCI Senate for over a year now and have had my name butchered, tortured, and pronounced badly enough to make fingernails on a blackboard sound like a naptime lullaby!

It is now time for action. I will be proposing to the Board of Directors of the NMJCI Senate that we secede from this sham of an organization called the USJCI Senate! To that end, I have contacted the Mexico JCI to initiate incorporation into their fine, spell check verified organization. Why, I can recall with fondness the precedent set in the early 1980’s when our great Jaycee political lobbyist Mr. Don - ‘Do you wanna be number wwuuuune or number two?’ - Woollard took the New Mexico Jaycees out from under the restrictive thumb of the Western States Institute and into the freedom of Independence! Boy did we shake ‘em up with that move!!!

So now I call for all NMJCI Senators to voice their opinion on this grave issue of a new Independence! No more shall we cower under the rule of spell check challenged leadership! No more shall we bear the brunt of surname defacement! No more shall we be questioned on the usefulness of our own state issued 3-dollar Clinton currency! Contact your officers AND fill out the enclosed ballot. It is imperative that we get 51% of the paid membership to respond so please take the 3 minutes needed to fill out the form enclosed. VIVA LA RAZA!!

Sincerely, Robert Larragoite #45641

President NMJCI Senate 1998-2000

NEW NEWS THAT'S NEWSWORTHY

A recent wave of articles and reports has been issued outlining the potential catastrophic effects of the date change that will take place on January 1, 2000. Many computers will misread the ending ‘00’ as 1900 instead of 2000, thereby causing unknown problems for mankind worldwide. Some fear the collapse of all utility services. Others worry about transportation issues with airlines, trucking companies, and railroads. All of the above are now partially or totally dependent upon computers to regulate activity. And those relying on government checks for their subsistence are worried most of all. Not that they feel the banks have not fully prepared for the date change problem, but because of this internal memo from the Clinton administration that will soon be released nationwide by this publication;

** PROJECT REPORT - CONFIDENTIAL **

Mr. Bill - Our staff has completed the 3 years of work on time and below budget. We have gone through every line of code in every program in every system. We have analyzed all databases, all data files, including backups and historic archives, and modified all data to reflect the change. We are proud to report that we have completed the "Y-to-K" date change mission, and have now implemented all changes to all programs to reflect the following new standards:

Januark, Februark, March, April, Mak, June, Julk, August, September, October, November, December and... Sundak, Mondak, Tuesdak, Wednesdak, Thursdak, Fridak, Saturdak

I trust that this is satisfactory, because to be honest, none of this ‘Y-to-K' problem has made any sense to me. But I understand it is a global problem, and our team is glad to help in any way possible. But what does the year 2000 have to do with it? Speaking of which, what do you think we ought to do later this year when the two-digit year rolls over from 99 to 00?

Sincerely, Al Gore - Internet Founder, and your V.P.

The only score needed for this entire report is;

NY GIANTS 13 - COWBOYS 10

Otherwise this NFL season can only be noted for it’s bizarre turn-around of power teams and also-rans. The Rams undefeated? The Falcons 1-6? The Broncos 2-5? Detroit leading its division without Barry Sanders? As I mentioned the most important event to date is;

NY GIANTS 13 - COWBOYS 10

And regardless of how the rest of the season turns out, this score can not be refuted, denied, nor ever removed from the books - Monday Night Football, 10/18/99

NY GIANTS 13 - COWBOYS 10

Dennis Mathis #35212 My hectic summer show season has come to a close, but there is still time to place your reservations for winter visits and JCI trips! The first half of the year is now complete for entrants into the aren’t-you-glad-its-not-a-millenium-titled contest E-vent! The results (all non Senators by the way…);

BEST FOOD - Forks down winner has to be my cousin Duncan in Atlanta, Georgia. After the GA Harley rally in early September , a short visit included playing with his 2-year-olds new toys, and dining on his gourmet home style Southern cooking! Way cool!

MOST COMFORTABLE BED - When visiting Roswell, N.M. during the July UFO Encounter, be sure to make reservations for a human size bed! Thanks to (Roswell Jaycee) Amy Tober Austin for offering up her home. A comfy queen size bed with A/C and ceiling fan to combat that 100-degree July heat!

MOST ENJOYABLE WAKE-UP CALL - Nothing beats the early morning bird calls audible from the Upper Canyon Road home of (Santa Fe and Capital City Jaycee) Joe Hoback in Santa Fe. While setting up misting systems for the VIP tents and selling product at the local air show in June, I had the pleasure of seeing other old Jaycees buddies as well.

BEST LOCAL TOUR GUIDE - Clear winner to (Gulfport MS Jaycee) Holly Henbury in Gulfport, MS. She works as a Programmer Analyst at the John C. Stennis Space Center - specifically for NOAA - and after a tour of the Center, we got to watch hurricane Floyd cruise towards North Carolina that very week via satellite photo’s and ocean buoy data! And before the MS Harley Davidson rally, we did some fine casino visiting along the gulf coast!

Editors Note - As reported last issue, Massey Brand had been caught braking a few interstate commerce laws by attempting to send alcoholic beverages to Colorado in support of NMJCI fundraising efforts. He is now safe at home and appreciates all the donations to his bail fund.

The activities of the NMJCI Senate were noteworthy this past summer in that no newspaper accounts of overt illegal acts were submitted to the editor.

All reports for this column are based on fact. Certain details may vary from actual accounts. The Chili Pepper Press strives for accuracy in all reports

MASSEY BRAND, GENE CYR, KEVIN FAHERTY, PHIL MILLENDER (WILL RAY BETZEN PAY?), BILL SIMMS, LOUIS TAFOYA, ADAIR GOSSETT IS PAID THROUGH 2001! THE ROSWELL SENATE DOES OWE FOR ITS ANNUAL PAYMENT. ANYONE ELSE WHO CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME THEY PAID, WELL THEN JUST ANTE UP IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT!

Current change of address information has our esteemed President Robert Larragoite and Lynn moving to 1824 Escondida Court, SF, NM 87505. And to quote from a recent email -”..this next Spring we will buy a piece of land and build our own place, just the way we want it. So f--- the advisors and the real estate vultures. Kinda odd for a Realtor to be talking that way about his own industry, don't you think!” Seems he had a problem on an earlier negotiation for a home purchase that got rather tangled with out of state Realtors, attorneys, and CPA’s.

Elsewhere, Gary Moore his wife, Janet and daughter Chrissy are living in Seattle, WA where Gary is VP of Marketing for Internet service provider Fanz.net. The company is rapidly expanding their services in new areas, including Albuquerque! In most areas of the country, you can sign up for service through the http://us.fanz.net webpage (or contact Gary directly for VIP service.) Janet teaches music in the public schools and is also Choir Director at Renton First United Methodist Church. Chrissy is in the sixth grade, plays flute and sings in the Seattle Girls Choir. All would love to hear from Jaycee friends via email at glmoore@fanz.net or by phone at (206) 246-7644.

Richard Tribby says Hi from Albuquerque. His oldest son Louis is graduation this spring from high school, so Richard is actively soliciting donations to his college fund!

Gardner Fugate is working for mega retailer Albertson’s and writes “..Don't do much but fish in fishing weather, hunt in the fall/winter and watch the kids and 2 grandkids grow.”

Jim Rogers became a first time granddad in late April, so check his web site listed last issue.

And many thanks to Mike Schramski, Kevin Faherty, and Leo Davis who keep those jokes a coming - much to the humor and sometimes consternation of Brenda McNeal.

In Phoenix Jerry King is cultivating new & improved types of cactus plants for personal medicinal purposes and submits his new email address jerry0612@wwdb.org.

Keep them emails and postcards coming! Everyone likes to see their name in print and stay in touch.

See what fun you are missing by not participating in the NMJCI e-mail link? We also have a website that posts the Chili Pepper Press newsletter and has current and historical listings of NMJCI officers, with links to other appropriate Jaycee sites. And some oldies but goodies in the Photo section - once Gary gets his big butt in gear!!! (Hey! I resemble that remark! -ed remark from the webmaster) If you are computer literate and feel the spirit, check out the site at http://www.can-inc.com/nmjcisenate . And to get on the e-mail link all you have to do is send an e-mail to the following address majordomo@can-inc.com with the words ‘info nmjci-senate’ as the entire body of the message (not the subject). Instructions and info will automatically come back within minutes!

Happy Fall and have a Fun Filled Turkey Feast !!

Email list for NMJCI Senate as of 10/25/99. Those wanting to be included, see instructions above. Thanks!
